China launches five-year plan to strengthen rural supply network

China has unveiled a 2026-2030 plan to modernize its national supply and marketing cooperative system as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural services, improve food security and advance rural development.

The plan outlines 18 key priorities, including expanding the distribution of agricultural supplies and improving support services for farmers.

By 2030, China aims to build or upgrade more than 100 national strategic fertilizer depots and around 1,000 county-level distribution centres in major grain-producing regions. This year alone, authorities plan to complete about 20 national depots, 200 county distribution centres and 200 agricultural service centres.

Officials said the upgraded network will improve the supply of farming inputs, expand grain drying and storage facilities to reduce post-harvest losses, and enhance services for rural communities.

China's supply and marketing cooperatives play a key role in linking farmers with markets by distributing agricultural products and providing essential farming materials and daily necessities across rural areas.
