Chinese Premier Li Qiang reaffirmed China's commitment to advancing high-quality growth and expanding its high-level opening up to the world, during a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the eighth China International Import Expo (CIIE) and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum in Shanghai on Wednesday.
Li emphasized that China will steadily broaden institutional openness and accelerate the opening of its services sector through comprehensive pilot programs. He underscored that a more modern and open China will contribute greater stability and positive momentum to the global economy.
This year’s CIIE has attracted a record number of participating enterprises, which Li said reflects the enduring vitality of China’s vast market. The expo, held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, drew around 1,500 attendees, including government officials, business leaders, and scholars from 155 countries, regions, and international organizations.

Amid rising unilateralism and protectionist measures in global trade, Li called for a renewed commitment to equality, mutual benefit, and the protection of international fairness and justice. He urged the international community to work together on reforming global governance and refining economic and trade rules.
China, he added, is ready to collaborate with all parties to implement the Global Governance Initiative in the
economic and trade sectors, while enhancing the World Trade Organization-centered multilateral trading system.
Li also pointed to the recent adoption of the recommendations for China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, calling it a step that offers greater certainty for the country’s development in the coming years.
Foreign leaders and heads of international organizations who spoke at the event praised the CIIE for its role in fostering global cooperation, promoting open markets, and stimulating worldwide economic growth. They also expressed strong interest in deepening collaboration with China in areas such as trade, innovation, green development, and infrastructure.
