Various celebrations staged across China to mark Mid-Autumn Festival

Communities across China have marked the Mid-Autumn Festival with cultural performances, lantern displays, traditional foods and family gatherings, celebrating one of the country’s most important traditional festivals.

Festivities were staged in cities and communities across the country, showcasing customs associated with the occasion, including moon viewing, lantern displays and the sharing of mooncakes.

The festival, which falls on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, is traditionally centred on family reunion and togetherness, with the full moon symbolising unity.

Cultural activities also highlighted elements of China’s traditional heritage, with performances, folk customs and other celebrations attracting residents and visitors.

For many families, the occasion provided an opportunity to reunite, share meals and exchange mooncakes — one of the festival’s most recognisable traditions.
