Ambassador attends 25th “Chinese Bridge” competition for university students in Guyana

More than 100 people including contestants, teachers, students of the Confucius Institute, and representatives from various sectors, attended the 25th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for University Students—Guyana Final and the 4rd “CNOOC Cup —Chinese Bridge” Competition in the University of Guyana on April 25,2026.



 

Chinese Ambassador Yang Yang who delivered remarks at the event, reviewed the history of cultural exchanges between China and Guyana, and emphasized the deepening integration between the two cultures.


She noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of Chinese becoming an official language of the United Nations, and welcomed more friends from all walks of life in Guyana to learn Chinese, jointly build bridges of culture, friendship and cooperation between China and Guyana, and contribute youthful energy to enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.


Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana Prof. Paloma Mohamed Martin highly commended “Chinese Bridge” as an important platform for Guyanese youth to learn about China and connect with the world. She said the Guyanese side would continue to support Chinese language education and promote China-Guyana people-to-people cooperation.



The finals consisted of three segments: Chinese speeches, knowledge quizzes and talent performances. They shared their close bonds with Chinese culture in fluent Chinese, and presented traditional Chinese art forms such as guzheng performances, calligraphy and tea art, showcasing the fruitful outcomes of China-Guyana cultural exchanges.
