Antigua & Barbuda delegation builds smart farming skills in China

A four-member delegation from Antigua and Barbuda is undergoing agricultural training in China aimed at improving the country’s approach to irrigation, water conservation and technology-driven farming.

The programme gives participants practical exposure to techniques that could help farmers produce more while making better use of scarce water resources. Areas of study include precision irrigation, soil assessment, water monitoring and smart agricultural systems.

The delegation is receiving training and visiting agricultural facilities in Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Baoding and Tianjin, where participants are observing how research and technology are being applied to farming.

The experience is expected to be particularly useful for Antigua and Barbuda, where water availability remains a persistent constraint on agricultural production.

Participants will conclude the programme by developing proposals on how some of the techniques and knowledge gained could be adapted to conditions in Antigua and Barbuda.

The visit also includes cultural exchanges and discussions on China’s development experience, adding another dimension to cooperation between China and the Caribbean nation.
