Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening relations with China, describing Beijing as the country’s most important development partner despite growing geopolitical pressure.

Speaking at the handover of the Chinese-funded Pelican Court housing development, Browne said China had contributed more to Antigua and Barbuda’s development over the past three decades than any other country.

He urged citizens to defend the partnership internationally, even when doing so carries consequences.

The EC$50 million project, funded through a Chinese grant, comprises 150 two-bedroom homes and forms part of the redevelopment of Booby Alley in the Point community.

Browne described the housing initiative as one of China’s most significant social investments in the country, saying it would improve living conditions for vulnerable families.

He pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation, stressing that the relationship remains vital to Antigua and Barbuda’s economic and social development.
