Bahamian Chinese ambassador visits local school's Chinese language club

Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas Yan Jiarong was invited to visit the Chinese language club of Xavier’s Lower School in Nassau and was given a tour of the school by Principal Deidre Cooper on 20 April 2026.


The Ambassador met with the school’s teachers and students, and was said to have had a joyful time. Candia Dames, Executive Editor of The Nassau Guardian, accompanied the visit, along with Embassy Attachés Lin Zhengqing and Chen Guojia.



Ambassador Yan said she highly appreciates the school's Chinese language education. She interacted with teachers and students to make them better understand traditional Chinese culture and China’s modernization drive. 


The ambassador emphasized that mastering Chinese serves as a “golden key” to open the door of opportunities for students around the world and encouraged the children to learn more about China and Chinese language. She welcomed teachers and students to apply for Chinese government scholarships and looked forward to students joining summer camp programs in China in the near future, encouraging them to become " envoys" for promoting China-Bahamas friendship.


Young diplomats from the Embassy engaged with the students in lively Q&A sessions. The students actively demonstrated their knowledge of China.
