Ambassador Zheng Bingkai and Christopher Sinckler, Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados, signed the development cooperation agreement on behalf of their respective governments on June 1, 2026.

Ambassador Zheng stated that Barbados was the first country in the Eastern Caribbean to establish diplomatic relations with China and has remained a good friend and reliable partner of China in the region. He noted that China stands ready to continue upholding the principles of mutual respect and mutual benefit, support Barbados' economic and social development, assist its economic diversification and transformation efforts, and promote the sustained and in-depth development of the China-Barbados  Partnership.

Minister expressed appreciation for China's longstanding and valuable support to Barbados. He stated that Barbados stands ready to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with China across various fields, achieve more tangible outcomes through practical cooperation, and deliver greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.

Other areas which were discussed were the redevelopment of the Barbados National Stadium, the overwhelming response to the Chinese Medical ship, which visited Barbados last December, and the Chinese Human Resources Training programme, facilitated by the Chinese Embassy to send 1,000 Barbadians for training to the People’s Republic of China, reports state.

Barbados and China established diplomatic relations on May 30, 1977.
