China, Bahamas advance health cooperation with focus on new hospital

China and The Bahamas are looking to deepen cooperation in healthcare, with discussions focusing on the planned new hospital in New Providence and broader public health initiatives.

Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas Yan Jiarong met with Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Michael Darville on August 11, along with newly appointed Minister of State Owen Wells and Permanent Secretary Brenda Colebrooke.

The talks covered China-Bahamas relations and opportunities to strengthen collaboration in the health sector, including progress toward construction of the new hospital on New Providence.

The officials also discussed the China-Bahamas public health seminar, an initiative aimed at promoting greater knowledge-sharing and exchanges between health professionals from both countries.

Healthcare has become an important area of cooperation between China and Caribbean states, with partnerships spanning medical training, infrastructure, technical exchanges and public health programmes.

The latest engagement signals continued efforts by Nassau and Beijing to translate their bilateral relationship into practical cooperation, particularly as The Bahamas works to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure and expand access to modern medical services.
