China criticizes new U.S. technology import restrictions

China says it will safeguard the interests of its companies after the United States imposed new restrictions on imports of advanced robots and power inverters, citing national security concerns.

The new measures, announced by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), expand its list of restricted technology products. Beijing has criticized the move as protectionist, arguing that it unfairly targets Chinese firms and could disrupt global technological cooperation.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the restrictions would not improve US competitiveness and instead could harm American businesses and consumers.

Industry analysts believe the immediate impact on Chinese manufacturers will be limited, noting that many companies are increasingly focusing on markets in Europe and other regions. They also argue that restricting access to Chinese technology could slow innovation and increase costs for US industries, particularly in renewable energy and artificial intelligence.

China maintains that it will continue promoting international cooperation and open innovation in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
