China launches youth programme combining revolutionary history and AI

China has launched a new public welfare programme aimed at inspiring young people through a blend of revolutionary history and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and humanoid robotics.

The 2026 "Caring for Growth, Lighting Up Hope" initiative was launched at Beijing's National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the Ice Ribbon, to mark the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 90th anniversary of the Red Army's Long March victory.

Organisers said nearly 2,000 children and teenagers from across Beijing will visit the Museum of the Communist Party of China to learn about the country's revolutionary history before touring the Ice Ribbon's humanoid robot training and competition base, where they will experience the latest advances in robotics and artificial intelligence.

The programme aims to promote patriotism while encouraging innovation, scientific thinking and interest in future technologies. Organisers said the initiative has benefited more than 30,000 children since its launch seven years ago.

The Ice Ribbon, which hosted speed skating events during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, has since evolved into a centre for sports, technology and innovation, including hosting the World Humanoid Robot Games.
