China and Barbados have strengthened their healthcare partnership following the donation of medical equipment to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown.

The handover was carried out by the Eighth Chinese Medical Team during a ceremony attended by Chinese Ambassador Zheng Bingkai, Barbados’ Minister of Health and Wellness Lisa Cummins, hospital officials, and members of the medical team.

Ambassador Zheng said the donation reflects China’s commitment to supporting Barbados’ healthcare sector and highlighted medical cooperation as a key pillar of the relationship between the two countries.

Minister Cummins expressed appreciation for the continued support from China, noting that the new equipment will improve the hospital’s ability to diagnose and treat patients.

Since arriving in Barbados, the Chinese Medical Team has also introduced a “TCM Friday” programme offering traditional Chinese medicine services such as acupuncture and cupping. The initiative has already assisted more than 200 residents and athletes.

Officials say the programme and the donated equipment will further enhance medical services while deepening cooperation between the two nations.
