In a show of solidarity and friendship, China has once again stepped up to support The Bahamas’ recovery from recent hurricanes. On November 17, Her Excellency Yan Jiarong, Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas, announced the latest contribution from the China–Caribbean Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Fund at a press briefing attended by Bahamian officials and local media.

Speaking to reporters, Ambassador Yan described The Bahamas as a “valued partner and cherished friend,” noting that this marks the fourth consecutive year China has provided disaster relief support through the Fund. “This is not just aid—it is a reflection of the deep bond between our peoples,” she said.

Ambassador Yan also highlighted China’s commitment to green development and climate action, stressing the urgent challenges that climate change poses to Small Island Developing States like The Bahamas. She reaffirmed China’s dedication to green cooperation and a fairer global approach to climate governance.

For The Bahamas, the support couldn’t come at a more critical time. Hon. Leon Lundy, Minister of State with Responsibility for Disaster Risk Management, expressed heartfelt gratitude for China’s long-standing assistance. “China’s support strengthens our ability to rebuild and better prepare for future disasters,” Lundy said.

The Minister also emphasized that the partnership goes beyond disaster relief. “We look forward to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors for the benefit of both our peoples,” he added.

With climate change posing ever-growing threats to island nations, international collaboration like this is seen as essential to building resilience and safeguarding communities. China’s repeated support signals not only friendship but a shared commitment to a safer, greener future for The Bahamas.
