Chinese Ambassador to Dominica Chu Maoming visited the Dominica-China Modern Agricultural Center on July 8th, 2025, to convey greetings and to support the Chinese experts of the 9th Phase of the China Aid Dominica Agricultural Technical Cooperation Project.

Ambassador Chu toured the laboratory and technical facilities, located in One Mile, Portsmouth, alongside the expert team and was briefed on the latest project developments as well as the mission’s work and living conditions.

The China Aid Dominica Agricultural Technical Cooperation Project was established in 2005 and has already undergone eight phases, all aimed at modernizing the agriculture sector in Dominica through the introduction of new crop varieties, advanced technologies and capacity-building programs.

The ambassador highlighted that the successful launch of the 9th Phase of the project marks a significant milestone in the practical cooperation between China and Dominica.

He encouraged the experts to maintain a high sense of mission, carry forward the long-standing tradition of agricultural collaboration between the two countries, and fulfill their assistance tasks with a strong sense of responsibility.

Ambassador Chu expressed hope that the team would continue to contribute to the modernization of Dominica’s agriculture and ensure that the fruits of cooperation benefit the local people.

Sun Xinhua, head of Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Embassy, accompanied the visit.

In March last year, China agreed to provide US$10 million towards budget support and other initiatives for Dominica.  Some of the funds, according to Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, was assigned to the agricultural project. These monies came under one of 10 agreements and memoranda of understanding signed with China during his visit to China between March 23 to 29, 2024.
