Chinese community marks 145 Years of Kong Ngie Tong Sang with festive celebration

The Chinese community in Suriname commemorated the 145th anniversary of Kong Ngie Tong Sang on November 15 with a warm and festive gathering honoring the organization’s longstanding contributions to national and community life.


President Jennifer Simons highlighted the association’s historic role in Suriname’s nation-building, noting that Kong Ngie Tong Sang has been an integral part of the country’s multicultural fabric for generations.

China’s ambassador also delivered remarks, praising the organization for strengthening cultural exchange, fostering entrepreneurship, and deepening the enduring ties between China and Suriname.


The chairman reflected on the group’s legacy, emphasizing that Kong Ngie Tong Sang “has been a pillar of support for the community for nearly one and a half century,” reaffirming its commitment to unity, cultural tradition, and social development.
