Chinese medical team expands free healthcare outreach in Guyana

The 21st China Medical Team to Guyana, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Rise Foundation, provided free medical services to residents of remote communities in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on June 27.

The outreach, held under the "Hundred Teams, Thousand Villages" initiative, brought specialist healthcare to communities where access to medical services remains limited. The team travelled for more than three hours by road and boat to reach the area.

Operating from Lima Regional Hospital, doctors offered consultations in general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, nephrology, ophthalmology, traditional Chinese medicine and public health.

Patients also received services including acupuncture, physiotherapy, laboratory testing and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening.

Medical staff conducted examinations, provided treatment advice and promoted healthy living practices. Residents praised the team's professionalism and commitment.

Team leader Dr. Li Huansong said the outreach reflects the strong health partnership between Guyana and China and reaffirmed the team's commitment to supporting primary healthcare through future clinics, training and technical assistance.
