In a recent episode of China Daily’s Dialogues with Thinkers series, Donald Ramotar, former President of Guyana, shared his insights into China’s development model and its growing role on the global stage. Drawing from his observations during multiple visits to the country, Ramotar expressed deep admiration for China’s dynamic approach to modernization and innovation.

According to Ramotar, China’s success in fostering nationwide creativity stems from two key pillars — high-quality education and visionary leadership. He noted that China has managed to build an education system that encourages scientific inquiry, technological advancement, and a spirit of problem-solving among its youth. This, he said, has been instrumental in nurturing the talent required to sustain the country’s rapid progress.

Ramotar also highlighted China’s emphasis on robotics and artificial intelligence, describing these fields as essential engines of future economic growth. “China is positioning itself at the forefront of technological innovation,” he said, “and its achievements in robotics are a testament to its forward-thinking strategy and commitment to building a smarter, more efficient society.”

Beyond technology and education, the former president praised China’s ability to adapt its governance model to meet the evolving challenges of the times. He observed that China’s pragmatic policymaking, guided by long-term vision and national consensus, has enabled it to maintain social stability while pursuing continuous reform and modernization.

“For me, one of China’s greatest strengths is its flexibility in governance,” Ramotar said. “It’s a country that learns from experience and adapts its systems to ensure that development remains inclusive and sustainable.”

Ramotar concluded by emphasizing that China’s development path offers valuable lessons for other nations seeking to balance growth, innovation, and social welfare. He described China’s trajectory as “a living example of how strategic planning, education, and innovation can work hand in hand to transform a nation.”
