During the 2025 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), Dominican Republic’s Ambassador to China, Julio Gomez Beato, said in an exclusive interview with China News Network that tourism is playing a vital role in the country‘s development.
He highlighted that the country not only actively engages in international cooperation but also shares its own experience abroad through international platforms like the World Tourism Cities Federation.

The ambassador noted that China is the Dominican Republic’s second-largest trading partner and he expressed his wish to strengthen private-sector exchanges so that more of the country’s signature products—such as cigars and tropical fruits—can enter the Chinese market.
He emphasized that Dominica should learn from Beijing’s success in cultural preservation and heritage protection, and to deepen bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector.
At the same time, the ambassador shared his daily routine of studying Chinese, saying he practices every day and hopes to one day give interviews fluently in Mandarin. He stressed that mastering Chinese is not only a personal goal, but also a bridge for strengthening exchanges, because “In China, you can see the future.”
