UNDP resident representative meets with China’s ambassador to Dominica

UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Limya Eltayeb, met with H.E. Chu Maoming, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Dominica in a hybrid meeting today to discuss shared development priorities and opportunities for collaboration.
They were joined by Head of UNDP’s Dominica Project Office, Dr. Justin Shone, who welcomed Ambassador Maoming; Mr. Sun Xinhua, Director, Economic and Trade Affairs, and Ms Zhongxi Zhang, Second Secretary, Embassy of China in Dominica to the UNDP Project Office in Roseau.

Ms. Eltayeb noted UNDP’s appreciation for China’s commitment to South-South cooperation in the Eastern Caribbean, highlighting its valued partnership in Dominica’s recovery efforts in following Hurricane Maria in 2017. China’s contribution of USD$3 million went toward roof restoration of multiple public healthcare facilities, schools and homes, as well as other initiatives to support Dominica in ‘building back better’.
She briefed Ambassador Maoming on UNDP’s current work in Dominica, ranging from climate resilience, enhancement of the Kalinago community, and livelihood improvement, to access to justice and public sector reform.
Similarly, Ambassador Maoming provided an overview of China’s cooperation with Dominica, expressing an interest in exploring opportunities for collaboration with UNDP to support Dominica’s sustainable development.
