China has built over 76,000 ground-based automatic meteorological observation stations, achieving total national coverage, according to the China Meteorological Administration.

Apart from these ground-based stations, the comprehensive meteorological observation system also includes 409 island stations, 120 upper-air observation stations, two large high-altitude UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), 546 weather radars, and nine Fengyun meteorological satellites in orbit.

Notably, the nine Fengyun satellites enable networked observations from both high and low orbits, making China the only country in the world operating four near-Earth meteorological satellites simultaneously—covering dawn, morning, afternoon, and oblique orbits. All are providing data products and services to 132 countries and regions.
