China congratulates Gaston Browne on historic re-election as prime minister

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has extended congratulations to re-elected prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne.

The twin island held a snap general election on April 30 where Browne’s Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party secured a historic landslide electoral victory, leaving the main opposition party with only one seat in parliament.

Li said in a congratulatory message on Thursday, that he stands ready to work with Browne towards strengthening mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation between the two countries. He also indicated his wish to advance bilateral relations to higher levels and deliver greater benefits for both parties.

China and Antigua and Barbuda established diplomatic ties over 43 years ago.
