China’s 76th founding anniversary celebrated in Caribbean region

Chinese Embassies across the English-speaking Caribbean region hosted several events to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (October 1, 1949 – 2025).


In Guyana, over 400 people were in attendance for the event hosted at the Marriott hotel.


The country's Prime Minister Mark Phillips lauded the tangible impact of the strong bilateral cooperation which he said is evident across several key economic sectors in the country.

“China, renowned for its leadership in infrastructure, developing new technologies, and sustainable development, remains a valued partner. The tangible impact of our current collaboration is evident in several sectors. As a consequence, we are working on projects in energy infrastructure, modernisation of agriculture, digital technologies, and in the promotion of sustainable development,” he noted.


Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Yang Yang, who also spoke of some major projects that the Chinese are executing here. With 53 years of diplomatic relations, she noted that the traditional friendship between China and Guyana continues to strengthen, while exchanges and cooperation across many fields are deepening and producing real results.


“China encourages its enterprises to invest in Guyana, supporting industrial upgrading and improving the living standards of the Guyanese people. In a few days, the new Demerara River Bridge – built by China Railway Construction Corporation – will open to traffic. It will greatly facilitate local travel and boost regional economic development,” the Chinese diplomat stated.

She added too that the Chinese companies that are carrying out high-quality projects here also shoulder social responsibilities, supporting vulnerable groups such as women, the elderly, and children through small but meaningful livelihood initiatives that energise local communities.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in Suriname held a grand reception to mark the 76th anniversary of the PRC on 26 September.  Vice President H.E. Gregory Rusland of Suriname graced the occasion with his presence.


In his address, Ambassador Lin highlighted China’s remarkable achievements over the past seven decades and reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening the friendship and cooperation with Suriname. In his remarks, Vice President Rusland praised our strong bilateral ties and thanked China for its support. He also spoke highly of the China-proposed Global Governance Initiative, which reflects our shared vision for a more equitable and cooperative world with a shared future for all.

And the Chinese Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago held a grand reception.


Minister of Planning, Economic Affairs and Development and Acting Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Kennedy Swaratsingh, addressed the event.


"Together, we revisited the extraordinary journey of the People’s Republic of China over the past 76 years, and reflected on the remarkable progress achieved in the 51 years of China–Trinidad and Tobago diplomatic relations. As I shared in my remarks, I have felt the warmth of the climate, the warmth of Trinidad and Tobago people, and the warmth of China–T&T cooperation. These experiences have filled me with confidence for fulfilling my duties to advance our bilateral relations and bring greater benefits to the peoples of both our nations."

The People’s Republic of China was founded on 1 October 1949. Over the past 76 years, the Chinese Communist Party has united and led China’s multi-ethnic people in a great leap forward.


This has enabled the Chinese nation to stand up, prosper, and grow in strength, achieving the miracles of rapid economic growth and sustained social stability.


Under the leadership of the Chinese President Xi Jinping, China has successfully entered a phase of large-scale modernization, having won the biggest anti-poverty fight in history and built a comprehensively moderately prosperous society on time.


Today, China is the world’s second largest economy, ranking first globally in merchandise trade volume, foreign exchange reserves, and manufacturing scale.


China’s contribution to global economic growth has exceeded 30%, making it a key driver of world economic development.
