China says it remains in communication with the United States regarding the timing of a potential visit by U.S. President Donald Trump, stressing that the trip is not linked to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters in Beijing that China has noted Washington’s clarification calling recent media claims “completely false.” The U.S. has repeatedly denied any connection between the visit and Middle East tensions, with Trump, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt all stressing that logistics—not geopolitical conditions—would dictate the schedule.

Trump told reporters on Monday he is “looking forward to the trip” and that there are “no tricks” involved. Bessent added that any rescheduling would be due to the president’s need to coordinate the war effort, not demands on China. Leavitt noted the meeting remains on the table, though a minor delay is possible.
