Chinese ambassador and Dominican officials inspect China-Aid school reconstruction projects

Chinese Ambassador to Dominica Chu Maoming and several cabinet ministers of Dominica including Education Minister Octavia Alfred and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, went on an inspection tour of the Tete Morne and Bellevue Chopin Primary Schools in Dominica on November 27. These projects are part of reconstruction efforts funded by China following the devastation of Hurricane Maria.

During the visit, Prime Minister Skerrit received a detailed progress report from the project team, which gave him a comprehensive understanding of the construction work. He commended the efficient progress of the project and the high quality of its construction, and expressed heartfelt gratitude for China’s generous and selfless assistance in areas such as education, training, infrastructure and more. Prime Minister Skerrit emphasized that Dominica and China are true friends, standing by each other in times of need, and that their relationship is one that has grown stronger over time. 


Ambassador Chu expressed appreciation for the strong support provided by the Dominican government for the school reconstruction project, highlighting that education is a key component of China-Dominica development cooperation.

He noted that the Chinese Embassy in the Dominica has been working closely with Dominican counterparts to ensure the project is completed in due course and to a high standard. Ambassador Chu reaffirmed China’s commitment to expanding and deepening practical cooperation and exchanges across a wide range of sectors, in order to fully implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries.


The officials also engaged in on-site interviews with Dominica’s mainstream media outlets. Also present during the inspection included Sun Xinhua, Head of Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Chinese Embassy, and the leaders of the Chinese project team.
