Chinese Ambassador to Dominica, Chu Maoming, hosted a press briefing recently with major Dominican media organizations, providing insight into China’s future development direction and its continued support for Dominica’s growth. Representatives from GIS, DBS, Kairi FM, The Chronicle, Nature Isle News, and EMONEWS were among those in attendance.

Ambassador Chu highlighted China’s significant progress during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, noting achievements in areas such as economic growth, technological innovation, poverty alleviation, and environmental sustainability. He then shifted focus to the forthcoming 15th Five-Year Plan, which will guide China’s national strategy from 2026 to 2030.

He explained that China will maintain its commitment to “high-quality development” by expanding international cooperation, deepening its green transformation, and playing a more active role in addressing global challenge, from climate change to poverty reduction. At the heart of this phase, he said, is a renewed emphasis on openness, inclusivity, and innovation.

“The next five years will see China advancing its modernisation agenda not just for national benefit, but as a contribution to global peace and development,” Ambassador Chu stated.

Turning to bilateral relations, the Ambassador reaffirmed China’s dedication to deepening cooperation with Dominica across multiple sectors including healthcare, infrastructure development, education, and climate resilience. He referenced recent discussions between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Dominican President Sylvanie Burton, calling their shared vision “a roadmap for stronger people-centered development cooperation.”

“The friendship between China and Dominica continues to grow. We are ready to work hand-in-hand to turn the outcomes of Chinese modernization into practical benefits for the Dominican people,” he added.

Following the briefing, Ambassador Chu engaged in a lively Q&A session with journalists, fielding questions on China’s foreign policy priorities, the outcomes of the recent Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, and the future of China–Dominica relations. Several media representatives expressed appreciation for the direct exchange, noting its value in understanding China’s evolving global role.

The event underscores China’s ongoing public diplomacy efforts in the Caribbean and reflects its interest in fostering closer regional partnerships built on mutual respect and development cooperation.
