Guyana’s Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, has warmly welcomed the 21st Chinese Medical Team during a courtesy visit at his Brickdam office, marking yet another chapter in the enduring friendship and collaboration between Guyana and the People’s Republic of China.

The 18-member team, comprising highly trained medical professionals in diverse fields such as internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, traditional Chinese medicine, and public health, will be stationed at various regional hospitals across Guyana. Their mission: to continue enhancing healthcare delivery and sharing valuable expertise with their local counterparts.

During the meeting, the delegation outlined their areas of specialization, service locations, and planned activities for the coming months. Minister Anthony commended the team for their dedication to service and reaffirmed Guyana’s appreciation for China’s sustained support in strengthening the country’s health system.

“For decades, Chinese medical teams have worked hand-in-hand with our local professionals, improving healthcare outcomes and building capacity within our system,” Dr. Anthony said. “This partnership has touched countless lives and continues to demonstrate the power of international collaboration in achieving health for all.”

Since the arrival of the first Chinese medical team in 1993, hundreds of Chinese doctors and specialists have served in Guyana, providing essential medical care, conducting surgeries, introducing new techniques, and supporting health outreach programs in both urban and rural communities.

Dr. Anthony highlighted that this continued collaboration reflects the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare and ensuring that every region benefits from specialized medical services.

“We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this new team as they share their skills, train our young doctors, and contribute to our mission of building a healthier Guyana,” he added.

Accompanying the Minister were Dr. Navindranauth Rambaran, Director of Medical and Professional Services, and Dr. Jeetendra Mohanlall, who also extended warm greetings to the visiting delegation and emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange between local and international health professionals.

The courtesy visit served not only as an introduction of the new team but also as a reaffirmation of the strong bilateral relationship between Guyana and China — one grounded in mutual respect, cooperation, and shared goals for improved health outcomes.
