Foreign Minister of The Bahamas Fred Mitchell has assured that his country values its friendly relationship with China and will continue to hold the One-China principle.
He said that The Bahamas is willing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China across various fields to promote the continued development of bilateral relations and to bring greater benefits to both countries.
Mitchell made these remarks during a courtesy call by Yan Jiarong, Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas on May 28, 2026, after he was sworn in for a new term.

Ambassador Yan handed over a congratulatory message from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and stated that political mutual trust between China and Bahamas continues to deepen, and exchanges and cooperation in various fields are progressing smoothly.
The ambassador said that China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the new government, jointly uphold true multilateralism, address global challenges such as climate change, and promote further achievements in China-Bahama relations.
The Bahamas held its general election on May 12, in which the ruling Progressive Liberal Party secured victory. Incumbent Prime Minister Philip Davis became the first Bahamian Prime Minister since 1997 to win re-election.
