Severe storms and tornadoes have killed at least 11 people and injured hundreds across central China, while parts of the south continue to battle record-breaking rainfall and flooding.

The storms struck eastern areas of Hubei province on Monday night, affecting more than 14,600 people, according to state media. More than 330 people were injured, one person remained missing, and dozens of homes were either destroyed or damaged.

A rare EF2 tornado hit the city of Huanggang, causing significant damage to a logistics company and warehouse. Powerful winds reportedly lifted and moved several trucks, highlighting the intensity of the storm.

Meteorologists said tornadoes are uncommon in Hubei, with most occurrences typically reported in southern and coastal regions. Experts linked the extreme weather to several factors, including the influence of the remnants of Tropical Storm Maysak.

Meanwhile, southern China’s Guangxi region has experienced severe flooding caused by heavy rains associated with the same weather system. Officials reported six deaths and 11 people missing, with hundreds of thousands affected and more than 130,000 residents evacuated.
